Why did you decide to become a UBELONG Volunteer?
I had wanted to be a volunteer in a different country for a couple of years. Last year, I started researching possible volunteer opportunities. UBELONG had great reviews and was not unnecessarily expensive, so I decided this was the best program for me.

What was your impact on your volunteer project?
I assisted and gave attention to the residents with developmental disabilities. I think I made the day easier on the people who care for the great residents as well, whether I was pushing around a resident in a wheelchair or assisting with meal time, it made the day easier for the resident and worker.

What were your major challenges?
My biggest challenge was knowing only basic Spanish. It would have been easier to talk with the teachers if I knew more Spanish, but after a couple days it got easier.

In a sentence or less, what did you think about the food?
Mayan food was delicious, flavorful and healthy.
