Why did you decide to become a UBELONG Volunteer?
I decided to become a UBELONG Volunteer because I appreciated the emphasis the program had on the volunteer experience and the home-stay experience.

What was your impact on your volunteer project?
I made a lot a friendships with the students who I taught in Cartago. I still communicate with one of the students; she speaks a little English. When we check in on one another, we speak in English so that she can improve the language.

What advice would you tell a future volunteer?
The first week can be overwhelming, even for someone (like me) who has traveled to another country before. Things improve drastically after the first week, if you persevere and maintain a positive attitude.

In a sentence or less, how would you sum up your experience?
Costa Rica may be a small and relaxed country, but there is so much to discover within its borders intellectually and recreationally.
