Why did you decide to become a UBELONG Volunteer?
My school, Nazareth College, provided the chance for students to partner with UBELONG. I was offered the once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to Ecuador for a week. I am a business management major and I was excited to work alongside local business owners in Tumbaco.
What is your favorite memory?
I loved working with Maria. She is a very caring person and made me feel at home. Maria owns a restaurant in Tumbaco and I was able to prepare food in her kitchen. My friend Stefanie and I served food to customers in her restaurant. We even had the opportunity to meet Maria’s family. We sometimes went to the grocery store with Maria and her granddaughter. She invited us to visit her again in Ecuador and told us to come back soon. I will be forever grateful to Maria and her family.
Tell me about somebody you met who impressed you?
The staff at UBELONG impressed me. Everyone was very welcoming and happy to see us. The food was incredible and every morning we had a beautiful view of the city outside our door. I loved talking to staff at the house and I hope to work with UBELONG again.
In a sentence or less, what was your funniest moment?
Overall, my group members made me laugh all the time. I thought the trip leaders, Whitney and Brian, were amazing. We would tell each other funny stories and play cards during the night time.
