Claim to fame: Peter has been a Red Cross volunteer in Germany for over 5 years. Welcome to the UBELONG family, Peter!

Why did you decide to become a UBELONG Volunteer?
The idea to work as a volunteer did grow over the last 2 to 3 years. In March 2016, I went to Mexico to visit a language school. After a lot of grammar, I decided to spent some additional time in Mexico at the end of 2016 to practice my Spanish. I found UBELONG over the internet. The information available I had the impression, was comprehensive without being overwhelming. The best for me to get some experience as volunteer and giving me the possibility to speak Spanish.

What were your major challenges?
Teaching classes with 30 children at the age of 6. If they start to roll they are hard to stop. It was challenging but fun to learn to handle them. An interesting cross work in letting them have fun and ensuring they get the education they need.

What did you take from the experience?
The motivation to come back as soon as I have time enough. Putting the focus in you is the really important thing.

In a sentence or less, best advice for fitting in with the local culture?
Take your time, don’t get in a hurry.
